Relieving Dry Eyes

Dry eye disease is a common condition that can cause your eyes to feel irritated if not treated. The disease occurs because the eyes aren’t able to produce enough high-quality tears to keep the eye lubricated.

Many people that suffer from dry eye disease simply put up with the irritation rather than seeking out a solution. We’re here to relieve your eyes. Through a variety of solutions, we’re here to relieve your dry eyes.

What is Dry Eye Disease?

Dry eye disease is normally caused by 2 main factors—decreased tear production and increased tear evaporation. Together, these factors can create irritation and other uncomfortable symptoms.

Decreased tear production can be caused by the following:

  • Aging
  • Certain medications
  • Specific medical conditions
  • Overuse of contact lenses

Increased tear evaporation can be caused by the following:

People with dry eye may experience the following symptoms:

  • Stinging, burning, or itching
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Redness
  • Mucus in or around the eye
  • Difficulty wearing contacts
  • Foriegn body sensation
  • Difficulty driving at night
  • Watery eyes
  • Blurred vision

Xiidra and RESTASIS

Xiidra and RESTASIS are eye drop solutions we’re excited to offer our patients. These drops help relieve symptoms by reducing inflammation. They also support the eye in producing natural and strong tears, lessening the effects of dry eye in the future.

Amniotic membranes are one of our more innovative solutions for treating dry eyes. The membranes are made of stem cell tissues that have healing and regenerative materials.

Amniotic membranes are typically used for severe cases of dry eye and can relieve symptoms of light sensitivity, foreign body sensation, and severe dryness. Please contact us to learn more about amniotic membranes.

Autologous serum drops are a new revolutionary approach used to treat dry eye. This treatment involves making sterile tears out of your own blood plasma, which can replenish your eyes with your body’s natural lubricating and antimicrobial properties.

Punctal plugs are tiny plugs that are inserted into a patient’s tear ducts. They are placed in the puncta—the area where tears escape from the eye.

These plugs stop fluids from leaking and keep the eye lubricated. This helps limit irritation caused by dry eye disease. Punctal plugs can be both temporary and semi-permanent.
